Commonwealth City Church is a “Christ glorifying family on mission for Jesus in our city and to the ends of the earth”.
Proverbs 29:18 tells us, “where there is no vision, the people perish.” That word “perish” correlates with our understanding of spoilage. As the people of God, we do not want the mission and vision of His Church to “spoil” under our care. The reality is, He gives us a vision.
In Luke chapter 4, Jesus stands to teach in the synagogue. In describing His own mission and vision, He reads from the prophet Isaiah. Likewise, we as the Church share in His mission. At Commonwealth City Church our mission statement is a combination of two verses, Isaiah 61:1 and Ephesians 1:10.
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon us, because the Lord has anointed us to bring good news to the poor; to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; the purpose set forth in Christ for us to unite all things unto Him.”
- ISAIAH 61:1, EPHESIANS 1:10-
Our mission for the city of Lexington and for this world is to preach the good news of Jesus, to encourage broken hearts and lives to find their healing in Christ, to celebrate and proclaim freedom from sin, guilt, and shame, and to help those who were once bound in their sin and shame to find a life of purpose to the glory and honor of Jesus our Lord. We believe this because Christ has called us, His church, to be vessels of restoration and redemption for the world in which we live.
God has placed Commonwealth City Church in Lexington, KY, but it is not there only for Lexington. Our church exists that all nations may proclaim the glory of the insanely gracious work of Jesus Christ. Part of our DNA is to understand that to follow Jesus means we take His message of grace and salvation made possible only through Him to the ends of the earth. Whether we are serving locally or globally; Christ be proclaimed!
