MISSIONARIES

As the family of God, we are to live out the mission of God in being people that make disciples and expand His glory to the ends of the earth!  The Holy Spirit enables and empowers those that put their faith in Jesus to be on this mission everyday.

Because the Holy Spirit inhabits those that follow Christ, we believe that anywhere they go in life, they are divinely sent and equipped to be on God's mission as God's family.

we are

servants

We serve a different kind of King.

[Jesus], though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

- Philippians 2:6-11-

Our King does not command His kingdom in the same manner as earthly rulers or kings.

Because we have a King that models servanthood, we choose to live, as family, on mission, and give our lives to serve that King.

we are

family

As Christ followers, understanding God as our Father allows us to view one another as family.  We were once the unregenerate objects of God's wrath (Eph. 2), but through the work of Christ we are adopted as sons and daughters; children of God (Rom. 8:16), something we could never accomplish on our own.

Because the work of Jesus has made us family, we seek to model to the world around us what the redemptive family of God should look like!

OUR MISSION

Our mission for the city of Lexington and for this world is to preach the good news of Jesus, to encourage broken hearts and lives to find their healing in Christ, to celebrate and proclaim freedom from sin, guilt, and shame, and to help those who were once bound in their sin and shame to find a life of purpose to the glory and honor of Jesus our Lord. We believe this because Christ has called us, His church, to be vessels of restoration and redemption for the world in which we live.

God has placed Commonwealth City Church in Lexington, KY, but it is not there only for Lexington. Our church exists that all nations may proclaim the glory of the insanely gracious work of Jesus Christ. Part of our DNA is to understand that to follow Jesus means we take His message of grace and salvation made possible only through Him to the ends of the earth. Whether we are serving locally or globally; Christ be proclaimed!
